Cross flow fan faults in an LG split system
The cross flow fan sets how much air your indoor unit can move. Once it's damaged or out of balance, airflow drops and noise rises. Typical signs include a rhythmic thumping or wobble, rubbing or scraping sounds, weak airflow even on high fan speed, and an indoor unit that vibrates on the wall. Blades can crack from age and heat, the wheel can loosen on the motor shaft, and dust and mould build-up can throw it off balance. A cracked blade is a reason to replace the fan, not to glue it.

Fitting the fan
Isolate the air conditioner at its circuit breaker or isolator before opening the indoor unit, and have a qualified air conditioning technician do the job if you're not confident. Any electrical disconnection on a hard-wired unit is work for a licensed electrician. Getting the fan out usually means lifting the coil or drain tray, so take care not to kink the refrigerant pipes. Check the new fan is centred and tight on the shaft before refitting covers.
