Product details

Genuine Ariston ignition electrode A288665 is the spark plug that lights a gas burner on FTGH series hobs. It is listed with a 650mm lead, the wire that runs back under the hob to the ignition module. The part comes from the Ariston, Indesit and Whirlpool group range. No model list is on file, so check which burner has the faulty electrode and confirm its number before ordering.

Gas burner not lighting? Check the ignition electrode

When you turn a burner knob to ignite, the ignition module sends a high voltage pulse down the lead to the electrode, which sparks across to the burner cap and lights the gas. A cracked ceramic body, a burnt tip or a lead with damaged insulation lets that spark leak away to the frame instead. You'll notice clicking with no flame, a weak or orange spark, a spark that jumps to the wrong spot, or one burner that won't light while the others do. Spills and cleaning water around the burner base can also cause misfiring.

Replacing a gas hob ignition electrode

Gas work in Australia should be done by a licensed gas fitter. Isolate the power and turn off the gas supply before the hob is lifted or the burner removed. The lead is routed under the hob to the ignition module, so note its path and keep it clear of hot surfaces and sharp edges. Test each burner for a strong, clean spark and full flame before refitting the trim.

Questions about this part

Does the lead length matter?

Yes. The lead has to reach the ignition module without stretching, and without being bunched up near hot parts. Match the number A288665 on the old part or your parts list rather than guessing, and send your hob's model number through our parts enquiry form if you need us to check.
