Turn every burner off and let the cooktop cool fully. Lift off the trivet and the old cap. Clean the burner head and its ports with a soft brush, and make sure they're dry. Place the new cap so it sits flat and centred, with any locating lugs engaged, then light the burner and check for an even blue flame. If the flame still looks wrong, have a licensed gas fitter check the cooktop.
