Part A/458/02 is ILVE's genuine 1300W bottom element, the heat source in the base of the oven for conventional bake and bottom heat functions. It's listed for 59 ILVE ovens and upright cookers, including the 600 series, the PL60MP and PW60MP, the PF60MP and PN60, the PL70MP and PW70MP, the D900 cookers, and the M150FMP and MT150FMP.

ILVE oven not browning on the bottom

The bottom element provides the lower heat that browns the base of pies, pizzas and bread and helps bring the oven up to temperature in conventional modes. When it fails, cakes rise but stay pale underneath, pastry bases come out soft, and preheating drags on. Some ovens will still heat slowly from the top element or fan, which can hide the fault for a while. A breaker or safety switch that trips when bake is selected is another common sign, and a multimeter check across the terminals will confirm an open circuit.

Replacing the ILVE bottom element

Turn the cooker off at the switchboard and let the oven cool fully. If there's a removable floor panel, lift it out to expose the element, then undo its fixings and draw it forward to reach the terminals. On some ILVE cookers the terminals are reached from the back instead. Photograph the wiring before you disconnect it. Any reconnection of a hard-wired cooker is a job for a licensed electrician.
