ILVE oven losing heat around the door?

The door seal is the heat resistant gasket the oven door closes against. It traps hot air in the cavity so the oven reaches temperature quickly and cooks evenly. After years of heat cycles the seal goes hard and flat, frays, tears near the corners or pulls away from its clips. Signs include heat or steam escaping around the door, scorch or grease marks along the top of the door and control panel, knobs that get too hot to touch, longer cooking times and food that cooks unevenly from front to back.

Fitting a new ILVE door seal

Let the oven cool completely and turn it off at the wall or isolating switch. Before pulling the old seal out, photograph where it starts and finishes and how its clips sit in the oven front. Clean the channel, then press the new seal into place starting at the top centre and working evenly around the corners so it doesn't stretch. Close the door and check it seals all the way round.
