Heat escaping from your ILVE oven door? Check the seal
The door seal is the gasket that runs around the oven opening and closes the gap between the door and the cavity when the door shuts. It holds the heat inside, so the oven reaches temperature quickly and the control panel above stays cooler. Years of heating and cooling make the seal go hard, flatten, tear or pull away from its fixing points. Typical signs are smoke or steam puffing out around the door, discolouring on the fascia, longer cooking times and food that browns unevenly near the front.

Swapping the ILVE door seal
Switch the oven off at the isolating switch and let it cool completely. Opening the door fully, or lifting it off its hinges, gives better access. Before pulling the old seal out, note how it is held, whether by clips, hooks or a channel, and where the join sits. Fit the new seal from the top centre outwards so it sits evenly without stretching, then close the door and check it meets the seal all the way around.
