Genuine ILVE part A/048/02/10 is the large burner cap, the flat lid that sits on top of a gas burner and spreads the flame evenly around the burner head. ILVE uses separate caps for its small and large burners, and its triple ring and fish burners have their own parts, so be sure it's the large cap you're replacing. Uneven or yellow flames? Check the burner cap

A burner cap looks simple, but it shapes the flame. It sits on the burner crown and forces the gas out through the ports in a neat ring. If the cap is cracked, chipped, warped by heat or badly discoloured, flames can lift, burn yellow or lean to one side. A missing or crooked cap can also stop the flame reaching the igniter and the safety probe, giving you clicking without lighting or a burner that won't stay on.

Seating the new cap

Make sure the burner is off and cool. Lift the old cap away and clean the burner crown and its ports with a soft brush, as blocked ports cause uneven flames as well. Seat the new cap flat and centred on the crown with no rocking. Light the burner and check for a steady blue flame all the way round. Persistent flame faults should be looked at by a licensed gas fitter.
