Recirculating rangehoods rely on carbon to strip cooking smells before the air goes back into the kitchen. 900404090 is a genuine twin pack of activated carbon filters, also sold as ULX252 and AR500CF, for Westinghouse, Chef and Electrolux rangehoods. Listed fits include the WRC904SC and WRF900CS, the CG950CGS, and the CS602S and CS902S. Note it is not the same as ULX251.
When to change rangehood carbon filters
Carbon filters work by absorbing odour molecules from the air the fan pulls through, and once the carbon is saturated it simply stops working. Unlike metal grease filters, they can't be washed back to life. If cooking smells hang around after the fan has been running, or the hood seems noisier because airflow is restricted, the carbon is probably spent. They only matter on hoods set up to recirculate. Ducted hoods that vent outside don't need them.

Changing the carbon filters
Switch the rangehood off at the wall and let any lamps cool. Remove the metal grease filters to reach the carbon filters, which usually sit behind them, then twist or unclip the old ones depending on your hood. Fit the new pair the same way, refit the grease filters and run the fan to make sure nothing rattles. Note the date somewhere handy so you know when they were last changed.

Is ULX252 the same as ULX251?
No. They are different filters and are not interchangeable. This twin pack is ULX252, also known as AR500CF. Check the code on your old filter or in the hood's manual before ordering.
