Rangehood not pulling smoke or dripping grease?

The grease filter traps fat and oil from cooking vapour before the air reaches the fan and ducting. Its four layers catch droplets as the air passes through, and the filter can usually be washed for a while. Eventually the layers clog, tear or warp, and cleaning no longer brings them back. When that happens the rangehood struggles to clear steam and smoke, the fan sounds louder, cooking smells linger, and grease can drip back onto the cooktop. A damaged filter also lets grease build up inside the motor housing, which is a fire risk.

Changing the grease filter

Turn the rangehood off and let the cooktop below cool down. Release the catch on the old filter, support it as it drops, and slide it out. Check the size against 525mm by 160mm. Most filters locate along one edge first, then the catch side is pushed up until it clicks. Wipe the inside of the canopy while the filter is out.
