The bag is the main filter in a bagged vacuum. Air is pulled through the bag material, which holds the dust and lets cleaner air pass on to the motor and exhaust filters. As the bag fills, its pores clog and airflow drops, so you get weaker suction, a vacuum that sounds strained and dust left behind on the carpet. Changing the bag
Turn the vacuum off and pull the plug out before you open the lid. Lift the old bag out by its collar, keeping it upright so dust doesn't spill, and drop it straight in the bin. Slide the new bag's collar fully into its holder, tuck the bag in so it isn't folded against the lid, then close up and test the suction.
