Product details
Holding the cabinet at the temperature set on the dial is the job of this genuine Fisher & Paykel control thermostat, part 883709P, which switches the cooling on and off. It comes packed as a service part. We don't have a model list for this number, and Fisher & Paykel used several thermostats that look much alike, so compare 883709P with the number on your old thermostat, or give us your model and serial number.
Fridge too warm, freezing up or running nonstop?
A control thermostat senses cabinet temperature through a thin gas-filled capillary tube. When the cabinet warms past the set point, its contacts close and the compressor starts, then they open again once it's cold enough. If the thermostat fails, the fridge may stop cooling altogether, run without ever switching off and freeze food, or cycle erratically. Turning the dial and hearing no click is a common sign. Before replacing it, check the fan, the defrost system and the door seals, which can cause similar symptoms.

Replacing a fridge thermostat
Unplug the fridge at the wall first. Photograph the wires on the old thermostat before pulling any terminals off, and note exactly how the capillary tube is routed and clipped, since the new tube needs to sit in the same spot to read correctly. Don't kink or sharply bend the capillary. Once fitted, set the dial to a middle setting and give the fridge a day to settle before adjusting.
Questions about this part
Is 883712P the same thermostat?
No. 883712P is a separate Fisher & Paykel control thermostat with its own number. Thermostats are calibrated to suit particular cabinets, so order the number that matches your old part or your model's parts list rather than the one that looks closest.
