Product details

This genuine Fisher & Paykel lid gasket, part 883049P, is the push-in seal for the lid of the H510 chest freezer. It runs around the underside of the lid and presses on the cabinet rim to keep the cold in. If your seal is torn, flattened or coming away, a new 883049P will restore the lid's grip. Check that the model on your freezer's label starts with H510 before ordering.

Chest freezer frosting up or lid not sealing?

A chest freezer relies on its lid gasket to stop warm, moist air leaking in. When the seal hardens, splits or loses its shape, you'll often see heavy frost or ice building up around the rim and under the lid, the freezer running for long stretches, and food near the top not freezing as hard as it should. A simple test is to close the lid on a strip of paper at several points. If it slides out easily, the seal isn't gripping there.

Fitting a push-in lid seal

Switch the freezer off at the wall and move the food into another freezer or an esky. Note how the old gasket sits, then pull it out of the channel in the lid, starting at a corner. Leave the new gasket in a warm room for a while so it relaxes, then press its locating strip firmly into the channel all the way round. Close the lid and check the seal meets the rim evenly before switching back on.

Questions about this part

Do I need glue or screws for this seal?

No. This is a push-in gasket, so the strip on its back presses into a groove in the lid and holds it there. Letting it warm up in a heated room before and after fitting helps the seal settle into shape and close evenly.
