In a frost free fridge a fan moves cold air from the cooling coil around the cabinet. The grille cover sits over that fan, guiding the airflow and keeping food packets, ice and fingers away from the blade. Covers crack when they are knocked by trays, snapped while removing shelves or broken when someone chips at ice. A damaged cover can let the blade catch on loose items, which shows up as a ticking or scraping sound and can stop the fan altogether. Missing pieces can also upset the airflow around the cabinet.

Fitting the fan cover
