Fridge too warm or freezing everything? Check the thermostat
The thermostat reads the temperature through a sensing tube and switches the compressor on and off to hold the setting on the dial. On fridges with cycle defrost, its cut in point is also what lets frost on the back wall melt between runs. When it fails, the compressor may never start, leaving the fridge warm, or it may never stop, freezing milk and lettuce and icing up the back wall. Clicking with no compressor start, or a dial that makes no difference, also points to the thermostat.

Fitting a fridge thermostat
Unplug the fridge at the wall before removing the control housing. Note exactly how the sensing tube is routed and clipped, because the new one must sit in the same spot to read correctly, and don't kink or cut it. Photograph the wiring and move the connections across. If you're not confident with the wiring, have an appliance technician do the job. Give the fridge several hours to settle before judging the temperature.
