Uneven flames on a Chef cooktop? Check the burner cap
The cap sits on top of the burner head and spreads the gas out to the flame ports in an even ring. A cap that is warped, chipped, badly corroded or sitting off-centre gives patchy, lifting or yellow flames, and can make the burner slow to light or keep clicking after it lights. Caps also go missing or get damaged during cleaning. The semi rapid burner is the medium sized burner on most cooktops, so make sure you're replacing the cap on the right one.

Fitting the burner cap
Make sure all burners are off and the cooktop is cold. Lift off the old cap, clean the burner head and its ports with a soft brush, and dry everything fully. Seat the new cap so it sits flat and centred. Light the burner and check for an even blue flame all the way round. If the flame still looks wrong, have a licensed gas fitter check the burner.
