Dryer door won't latch or the dryer won't start
The door switch tells the dryer the door is shut, and this cover holds and protects the switch at the door opening. When the cover cracks or breaks, the switch can move out of position, so the closed door no longer presses it properly. The dryer may refuse to start, stop mid-cycle as the drum turns, or only run if you lean on the door. A broken cover can also leave the switch and its wiring exposed to lint. If the switch itself still tests fine, a new cover is often all you need.

Fitting the switch cover
Unplug the dryer before you start. Open the door and look at how the old cover is fixed around the switch, usually with screws or clips at the door opening. Remove it carefully so you don't strain the switch wiring. Fit the new cover, making sure the switch sits squarely, then close the door and check the dryer starts and stops as it should.
