Front loader not heating water? Signs of a failed element
The heating element sits in the sump at the bottom of the outer tub and heats the water for warm and hot washes. A temperature sensor reports back to the control so the heat switches off at the selected temperature. When the element burns out, the washer may run every cycle cold, take much longer than normal as it waits for heat that never arrives, or stop with a heating fault code. An element that has shorted to earth can trip the safety switch as soon as heating starts. Hard water scale on the element shortens its life.

Replacing the washer element
Turn the washer off at the wall, unplug it and shut both taps. Drain the tub through the filter or drain hose first, as the element sits below the water level. Remove the panel that gives access, photograph the terminals and any sensor plug, then undo the centre nut and work the old element out of its seal. Push the new one fully home so it locates in the tub bracket, tighten evenly and test with a warm wash.
