Top loader tub banging or sitting off-centre?
The rod cap fits on the end of a suspension rod and forms the pivot point the rod moves on as the tub swings during the wash and spin. Nylon is a good choice for this job because it is tough and slides with little friction. Once a cap cracks, wears through or pops off, the rod can slip, grind or pull loose. That shows up as a tub that hangs lower in one corner, loud knocking or banging on spin, squeaking as the tub moves, or the machine stopping with an unbalanced load. Check all four corners while the deck is up.

Fitting a new rod cap
Unplug the machine and lift the top deck to get at the suspension rods. Unhook the affected rod, slide the worn cap off and press the new one on until it seats fully. Look over the other caps and the rod springs while you have access, as worn parts tend to fail together. Run a spin with a load in the bowl to check the tub moves freely and quietly.
