Converting a Chef or Westinghouse cooker to LP gas
Natural gas and LP gas are supplied at different pressures and need different sized openings to give a clean, correctly sized flame. A conversion kit supplies the parts the manufacturer specifies to change a cooker from one gas type to the other. Running a cooker on the wrong gas without converting it can give yellow, sooty or lifting flames, poor heating, a smell of gas or a carbon monoxide risk. The kit is needed whenever a natural gas cooker is moved to a property on bottled or reticulated LP.

Licensed gas fitter required
Gas conversions in Australia must be carried out by a licensed gas fitter. They will turn off the gas and power, fit the new components, set the burner and regulator settings for LP, test for leaks and check the flame on every burner. They should also update the appliance's gas type label. Keep the removed natural gas parts in case the cooker is ever converted back.
