What an inner door glass seal does

The inner glass is the pane you see when you open the oven, and the seal sits between it and the door frame. It keeps cooking vapour and grease from getting in between the glass layers and stops heat escaping into the door. When it hardens, shrinks or breaks, you'll often see a greasy film or condensation between the panes, the outer door getting hotter than usual, or a loose inner glass that rattles. Food can also take longer to cook when heat is lost through the door.

Fitting the glass seal

Make sure the oven is cold and isolated at the switchboard. Taking the door off and laying it on a towel gives you room to remove the inner glass. Lift out the old seal, clean the glass edge and frame of grease, then fit the new seal in the same position as the old one without stretching it. Refit the glass the way it came out, with any printed side facing the same direction as before.
