Westinghouse oven slow to heat or leaking heat at the door

This seal is fitted around the front of the oven cavity, and the door presses against it when closed. As a cavity gasket, it's mounted on the oven body rather than the door. As it ages, the seal goes hard, flattens out or breaks at the corners. Heat then escapes around the door instead of staying in the oven, so preheating takes longer, cakes and roasts need more time, and the control panel or knobs feel hotter than they used to. Torn sections and gaps you can see with the door open are a clear sign it's time for a new one.

Fitting the cavity seal

Let the oven cool and switch it off at the wall or isolator. Opening the door fully, or taking it off its hinges, gives much better access to the cavity front. Ease the old seal out and note where it starts and finishes. Clean the mounting area, then fit the new seal from the same starting point, keeping it evenly spaced and pressed fully home. Close the door to check it meets the seal all the way round.
