This element supplies all the heat for fan forced cooking. The fan blows air over the hot coil and circulates it around the cavity. When it fails you'll usually notice the fan running while the oven barely warms in fan modes, preheats that drag on, or baking that never quite browns. A shorted element often trips the safety switch or the oven circuit breaker as soon as a fan function is selected. Before you fit the element
Isolate power at the switchboard, not just at the oven controls. With the fan cover off, the element is held by a few screws and its terminals pass through to the back panel. Most built-in ovens have to slide out of the cavity for access. Note which wire goes where, fit the new element without bending the coil and refit the cover before testing. Have a licensed electrician do the job if the oven is hard-wired.
