Oven not heating from the bottom? Check the lower element
The bottom element supplies heat from the base of the oven, either under the floor panel or along it depending on the design. It does most of the work on conventional bake settings and anywhere the oven needs heat from below. When it fails, the oven may still warm up through the grill or another element, but it takes much longer and anything needing heat underneath comes out pale, soggy or undercooked. Look for a break, blister or burn mark on the element, a burnt smell, or a safety switch that trips as soon as bake is selected.

In Australia, electrical work on an oven wired directly to the switchboard needs a licensed electrician, so book one if your oven is hard-wired. Isolate the circuit and let the oven cool fully. Measure the old element and compare it with the 355 x 335mm size, note the wiring, then fit the new element with its terminals passing through the back wall as before. Run the bake setting and check for even heat.

With the power isolated, a technician can test the element for continuity with a multimeter. Visual signs include a break, blister or scorch mark. If the top of the oven heats but the base stays cool on bake, the bottom element is the likely cause.
