Westinghouse oven door not staying shut
The latch holds the oven door firmly against its seal so heat stays inside the cavity. If the latch wears, breaks or comes loose, the door can drift open during cooking, need pushing to close, or leave a gap you can feel heat coming from. That escaping heat makes the oven slower to reach temperature, cooks unevenly and can make the controls and knobs above the door uncomfortably hot. A door that will not stay shut is also a safety concern around children.

Replacing the oven door latch
Let the oven cool completely and switch it off at the isolating switch, as ovens are hard-wired. Remove the trim or panel that gives access to the latch, noting the position of any screws and springs. Fit the new latch the same way round, refit the panel and close the door a few times to check it engages cleanly. If any wiring needs disturbing, leave it to a licensed electrician.
