Product details
Listed for Westinghouse 540 gas cookers, 85800190081845 is a genuine white gas control knob, also known by the Electrolux number 0019008184. It sits on the spindle of a gas tap, so it's what you push and turn to light a burner and set the flame. Westinghouse used several knob styles over the years, so check the number against your old knob or parts list before ordering.
Signs a Westinghouse gas cooker knob needs replacing
On a gas cooker the knob does more than look tidy. Most gas taps need the knob pressed in before they'll turn, and the knob's socket has to hold the spindle firmly while you do it. Once the plastic cracks or the socket rounds out, the knob slips, wobbles or comes away in your hand, and reaching for pliers to turn a gas tap is unsafe. Faded markings are another reason to replace it, because you need to see at a glance whether a burner is on, low or off.

Replacing a gas knob
Turn every burner off and let the cooktop cool. Pull the old knob straight off the spindle and look at the shape of the spindle end, which the new knob must match. Push the new knob on firmly, then check it turns smoothly to each position. If the tap feels stiff or you can smell gas, stop and have a licensed gas fitter inspect the cooker.
Questions about this part
Do I need a gas fitter to change the knob?
No. The knob simply pushes on and pulls off the tap spindle. But if the gas tap itself is stiff, leaking or the burner won't stay alight, that's work for a licensed gas fitter, not a new knob.
What does 540 refer to?
It's part of the description this knob is listed under and points to the Westinghouse cooker range it suits. The model number on your cooker's rating label is the best way to confirm. Send it through our parts enquiry form if you'd like a hand.
