Freezer not freezing or fan noisy? The fan kit could be the cause

In a frost-free fridge freezer, the fan behind the freezer panel moves cold air over the evaporator and around the cabinet, and on many models through to the fridge section as well. When the motor fails, the evaporator still gets cold but the air barely moves, so the freezer warms up, ice cream softens and the fridge loses its chill. A motor with worn bearings often squeals, buzzes or ticks, especially with the door closed. Ice built up around the blade can stop the fan too, and heavy frost on the panel points to a defrost problem instead.

Installing the fan kit

Switch off at the wall and unplug the fridge, and move frozen food somewhere cold while you work. Take off the freezer's rear panel to expose the fan. Photograph how the wiring and any brackets are arranged, then transfer them to the new kit. Check the blade spins freely and clears its housing, refit the panel and give the cabinet a few hours to pull back down to temperature.
