Product details

Fisher & Paykel part 838456 is the genuine inline water valve for fridges plumbed in for ice and chilled water. It's listed for models including the E522BRXFDU5, E522BLXFDU5, RF522ADUX5, RF522WDRUX5, RF610ADUX5, RF610ADUSX5 and RS90AU1. If your fridge has stopped making ice or the dispenser has gone dry, the 838456 valve is one of the first parts to look at.

Fisher & Paykel fridge not making ice or dispensing water?

The inlet valve is an electrically operated tap that opens when the fridge calls for water. It lets mains water through to the ice maker and dispenser, then shuts off firmly when the job is done. A faulty valve can fail in two ways. If it won't open, the ice tray stays empty and the dispenser gives nothing. If it won't close fully, water can drip, overfill the ice tray, or freeze where it shouldn't. A buzzing or humming from the back of the fridge, or a slow trickle when you press the dispenser, also points here. Check the supply tap and water filter first.

Replacing the inlet valve

Switch the fridge off at the wall and turn off the water supply tap before you start. Keep a towel handy, because the lines hold some water. Photograph the hose and wiring connections, then move them across one at a time. Turn the water back on and check every joint for drips before pushing the fridge back. Run a few glasses through the dispenser to clear air from the line.
