Part 836570 is a genuine Fisher & Paykel shelf stiffener plug for the left hand end of a fridge shelf. The stiffener is the reinforcing rail along the shelf edge, and this small plug caps its end. The matching right hand plug is 836569, and F&P also lists shelf trim plugs under different numbers, so make sure the shape matches your old plug before you order.
What the shelf stiffener plug does
Fridge shelves carry a lot of weight in bottles, jars and leftovers, so the edge is reinforced with a stiffener rail. The end plugs finish off that rail, hold it in position on the shelf and give the end a smooth edge rather than a bare cut section. When a plug cracks or goes missing, the rail can slide or work loose, the shelf may rattle or sit unevenly on its supports, and the exposed end can snag food packaging or fingers. A new plug is a quick fix that saves replacing the whole shelf.

Fitting the plug
No tools are normally needed. Lift the shelf out of the fridge and place it on a towel. Remove any broken pieces of the old plug, then line the new plug up with the end of the stiffener and press it on firmly until it sits flush. Slide the shelf back onto its supports and check it sits level.
