Supplied with its bracket as one assembly, 818721P is a genuine Fisher & Paykel fan motor. Depending on where it's fitted, a fan like this either moves cold air from the evaporator around the cabinets or cools the condenser and compressor. Getting the motor and bracket together saves swapping an old bracket over and puts the motor in the correct position. Check the number on your old assembly first.

Fridge fan motors run for long hours, and their bearings eventually wear. A failing evaporator fan leaves the freezer cold but the fridge warm, because the cold air isn't being pushed through. A failed condenser fan lets the compressor run hot and struggle, so both compartments slowly lose temperature. Listen for squealing, ticking or grinding, or for no fan noise at all while the compressor is running. Ice building up around a fan can produce similar symptoms.

Fitting the fan motor assembly
Switch the fridge off at the wall and move food to an esky or another fridge. Remove the panel covering the fan, take a photo of the wiring and the fan blade position, then unbolt the old assembly. Transfer the blade across if needed so it sits at the same depth on the shaft. Run the fridge and check the fan spins freely.
