It's made to the original equipment specification by an aftermarket maker rather than by Smeg, and suits a long list of Smeg ovens and cookers including the C9GMX, C92GMX, C6GMX8, C7GMXI8, B6GMXI9 and B90MFX5. Smeg oven function knob not working? Signs of a failed selector switch
The selector switch routes power to the right combination of elements, fan and light for each cooking function. Over time the internal contacts burn or wear, and the shaft can crack from heat or force. Typical symptoms include an oven that heats on some functions but not others, a light or fan that stays on when the knob is off, a crackling sound or burning smell at the control panel, or a knob that spins loosely without clicking into position. A continuity test across each position confirms the fault.

Fitting the selector switch
Isolate the oven at the switchboard first. This is a mains voltage control, so in Australia it should be fitted by a licensed electrician. Pull off the knob, remove the control panel and take clear photos of every wire before moving any of them. Transfer the wires one at a time to matching terminals on the new switch, then test each function before refitting the panel.
