The upper element runs across the roof of the oven cavity and does the grilling, and on several functions it also adds top heat for browning. Fitting a grill element
Turn the oven off at the isolating switch or circuit breaker and let it cool completely. Top elements are usually held by screws at the back wall and sometimes a bracket at the front. Ease the terminals through gently, photograph the wire positions and move each wire across to the new element one at a time. Ovens hard-wired into the mains should be worked on by a licensed electrician.
