The fan forced element surrounds the fan at the back of the oven, hidden behind the rear cover. When you choose fan forced, the fan pushes air across it to spread heat evenly through the cavity. A failed element leaves the fan turning and the light on, but the oven barely warms or takes far too long to reach temperature.
