Rangehood not sucking, humming or noisy?
The motor assembly drives the fan that draws steam, smoke and grease up through the filters and pushes it out through the ducting or recirculating filter. As bearings wear, the motor starts to whine, rattle or vibrate, then slows down and loses suction. A motor that hums without turning, runs only on high, cuts out once warm or smells of hot windings is on its way out. Clean the grease filters and check the speed switch before replacing the motor, as clogged filters cause weak extraction too.

Fitting the rangehood motor
Switch the hood off and isolate power, unplugging it or turning off the circuit at the switchboard. If it is hard-wired, a licensed electrician should do the job. Remove the filters and any inner panels to reach the motor housing. Photograph the wiring and note the fan outlet direction, support the motor while undoing its fixings, then fit the new assembly and test every fan speed.
