Why replace a rusty dishwasher basket
The lower basket carries plates, pots and pans on rows of tines and runs on wheels along the door and tub rails. Once the coating on the wire chips, rust follows, leaving brown marks on crockery and flakes in the filter that can end up in the drain pump. Bent or broken tines let plates lean into the spray arm and stop it turning, which hurts wash results. A basket with missing or damaged wheels can also derail and jam the door.

Fitting the new lower basket
No tools are needed for most models. Pull the old basket out to the end of the rails and lift it clear. If the new basket needs wheels transferred, unclip them from the old one carefully. Roll the new basket onto the rails and check it slides in fully and the door closes without catching.
