Heat escaping from your Smeg oven door
The door seal is the flexible gasket around the oven opening that closes the gap between the door and the cavity. It keeps heat and steam inside so the oven reaches temperature quickly and holds it. Seals harden, shrink and fray with age, and they can tear when trays are slid in carelessly. Signs of a worn seal include heat or smoke escaping around the door, a hot outer door or control panel, longer cooking times and uneven browning. Gaps, flattened sections or loose corners are easy to spot with the door open.

Fitting the oven seal
Make sure the oven is cold and switched off. Note how the old seal is attached, usually with hooks or clips pushed into holes around the oven face, and where the join sits. Remove it and wipe the surface clean. A good method is to start fitting the new seal at the top centre and work evenly around so it is not stretched. Close the door and check it seals all the way round.
