Symptoms of a worn Smeg oven door seal
The seal forms the barrier between the door and the oven cavity, trapping heat inside. Years of high temperatures make the rubber harden, shrink and crack, and cleaning can tear it. When that happens the oven takes longer to heat, cooking times stretch out and food browns unevenly. You may also notice steam or hot air escaping at the top of the door, knobs that get very warm, or grease stains forming above the door. With the oven cold, close the door on a strip of paper. If it slides out with no grip, the seal isn't doing its job.

Fitting the replacement seal
Make sure the oven is off and completely cold. Before pulling the old seal out, look at how it's held at the corners and along each side, so the new one goes back the same way. Clean the groove and the surrounding surface. Start the new seal at the top corners, work around evenly without stretching it, and check the door closes firmly with no gaps.
