Product details

754130980 is a genuine Smeg gasket for the air break in Smeg dishwashers. The air break is the plastic water inlet chamber usually fixed to the side of the tub, and this gasket seals the joint where it meets the tub wall. Once the rubber hardens or flattens, water can weep out of that joint and onto the floor. We have no model list for this number, so compare it with the Smeg parts list for your dishwasher.

Water leaking from the side of a Smeg dishwasher

Dishwasher water doesn't go straight from the tap into the tub. It first passes through the air break, a chamber with a physical gap so dirty water can't be siphoned back into the mains supply. The gasket keeps that assembly sealed against the tub. Heat cycles and detergent age the rubber, and a seal that has shrunk or cracked lets water track down the side of the cabinet. Signs include water pooling under one side, the flood protection tripping on models that have it, or rust marks on the base. Replacing the gasket is often all that's needed when the housing itself is sound.

Replacing the air break gasket

Switch off at the wall and turn off the water tap. Pull the dishwasher out of its cavity and remove the side panel to reach the air break. Undo the nut or fixings holding it to the tub, lift it away and peel off the old gasket. Clean both faces, fit the new gasket evenly and tighten firmly without crushing it. Run a cycle and check for drips.

Questions about this part

Should I replace the gasket or the whole air break?

If the air break housing is intact and the leak comes from its joint with the tub, the gasket is usually enough. If the plastic is cracked, warped or scaled up inside, replace the air break assembly and fit a new gasket with it.
