When to replace a coffee machine top cover
Top covers take knocks from cups and cupboards, and heat from the heater underneath can make older plastic brittle over the years. Clips and screw bosses snap easily when the machine is opened for a repair. A cover that won't sit flat, rattles, or has a broken hinge or clip lets steam and dust in and can leave sharp edges. On some machines the top cover also carries a cup warming area or a hinged flap, so a broken one affects more than looks.

Fitting the top cover
Unplug the machine before removing any panels. Most top covers are held by screws, clips or both, often hidden under the water tank or a lid. Undo them gently, lift the old cover clear and transfer any labels, seals or small fittings. Line up the new cover's clips, refit the screws without overtightening, and check the cover sits flat.
