Signs a double oven door seal has failed

A worn seal lets hot air escape around the door, so the oven struggles to hold temperature, takes longer to cook and wastes power. You may see steam or smoke drifting out of the top of the door, scorch marks on the knobs or panel above it, or condensation on the cabinetry. Seals harden, flatten and tear with age, and the corners often pull out of their holes. If the seal crumbles when touched or no longer springs back, it is time for a new one.

Changing the door seal

Make sure the oven is off and completely cold. Opening the door wide gives easier access. Pull the old seal out, noting how it is fixed at the corners and along each side, and start the new one at the top centre. Work it round evenly without stretching it, push each fixing home, then close the door to check it seals all the way round.
