Diagnosing a failed Bosch grill element
Mounted in the roof of the oven, the grill element browns and crisps food on grill settings and adds top heat on several other functions. Being a dual element, it has two heating circuits, so the oven can heat part of the element or all of it. Signs of failure include a grill that stays cold, half the element staying dark, patchy top browning, or the safety switch tripping when grill is selected. Look closely for a split, blister or bright burn spot on the element.

Changing the grill element
Switch the oven off at the circuit breaker and let it cool completely. Mounting varies between models, but the wiring is usually reached from the rear once the oven is out of its cabinet. Label the terminals before disconnecting, as the connections on a dual element are easy to mix up. Any hard-wired connection is a job for a licensed electrician.
