Dishwasher not heating or leaving dishes dirty? Check the heat pump
In these BSH dishwashers the heating element is built into the circulation pump housing. The pump pushes water from the sump up through the spray arms, and the heater warms that water as it flows past, so one part looks after both wash pressure and temperature. When it fails you may find dishes coming out cold, greasy or wet, a heating fault on the display, a cycle that runs for hours or a machine that trips the safety switch. A worn pump can also hum, grind or leak from underneath. Clean the filters and sump first, as a blockage can mimic weak washing.

Changing the heat pump
Turn the power off at the wall, unplug the dishwasher and shut the water tap. The heat pump is reached from underneath, so the machine usually has to come out of its cavity and be laid on its back with towels down for leftover water. Photograph the wiring and hose positions, release the clamps and turn the old pump out of the sump. Seat the new pump squarely, reconnect everything and run a hot program to check for leaks.
