Heat escaping around the oven door? Time for a new cavity seal
The cavity seal is the gasket fixed around the front of the oven cavity that the door presses against when it closes. It keeps hot air inside, so the oven reaches temperature quickly and the door glass and controls stay cooler. After years of heating, the seal hardens, flattens, splits or pulls away at the corners. Typical signs are steam or heat escaping from the door edges, food cooking unevenly, longer preheat times, a hot control panel or condensation running down the front. A torn or hanging seal can also catch on the door every time it shuts.

Fitting the cavity seal
Let the oven go completely cold and switch it off at the isolating switch. Opening the door fully, or taking it off if your model allows, gives better access. Note where the old seal starts and finishes and how its hooks or clips locate, then ease them out of their holes one at a time. Push the new fixings home firmly, keep the seal straight through the corners without stretching it, and close the door to check it seals evenly.
