The hall sensor, LG part 6501KW2001B, tells the control board where the rotor of a direct drive motor is so it can turn the drum smoothly. This genuine LG sensor is also listed as 6501KW2001A. LG direct drive washers have no belt. The rotor bolts straight onto the drum shaft, and this sensor, mounted on the stator, reads the rotor magnets as they pass. The control board uses that signal to time the motor windings. When the sensor fails, the board loses track of the rotor. The drum may jerk, twitch back and forth, refuse to spin, or stop with an LE motor error, often worse with a heavy load. Moisture or a damaged connector can cause the same faults, so inspect the plug and wiring while you're there.

Fitting the hall sensor
Disconnect the washer from power and close both water taps. On front loaders, take off the back panel, undo the centre bolt and pull the rotor off to expose the stator. Top loaders are worked on from underneath. The sensor clips onto the stator and plugs into the loom. Swap it over, refit the rotor and tighten the bolt firmly. Run a spin cycle to check the drum speeds up smoothly.

Does an LE error always mean a bad hall sensor?
No. LE means the board has detected a motor fault. A worn rotor, damaged stator windings, a loose connector or a fault in the wiring loom can all cause it. Check the wiring and stator alongside the sensor before replacing parts.
