Product details

632045 is a genuine BSH tension roller wheel, the idler that keeps the drive belt tight in Bosch and Siemens clothes dryers. BSH also writes this number as 00632045, so you may see either on parts lists. It's a common wear item, since it spins every time the drum turns. Check your parts list or compare the old roller before ordering, as BSH dryers don't all share one tensioner.

Squealing or thumping dryer? A worn tension roller is a likely cause

Inside the dryer, the belt runs from the motor pulley around the drum. The tension roller presses against the belt so it grips the pulley instead of slipping. As the roller's bearing wears, it starts to squeal, grind or thump, usually loudest at the start of a cycle. A seized or broken roller lets the belt go slack, so the motor runs but the drum turns slowly or not at all. With the machine open, spin the roller by hand. Roughness, wobble or flat spots mean it's due for replacement, and it's worth checking the belt for cracks while you're in there.

Fitting the tension roller

Unplug the dryer before removing any panels. Take photos as you go so the belt routing and any wiring go back the same way. Fit the new roller on its mount, then thread the belt around the motor pulley and the roller following your photos. Turn the drum by hand a few full turns to check the belt tracks straight before closing up.

Questions about this part

Should I replace the belt as well?

If the belt is cracked, glazed or stretched, it makes sense to replace it while the dryer is open. A worn belt can slip even with a new roller, and the labour to get to it is the same.
