Product details

Part 613 is a generic inline shut off valve for 1/4 inch tube on both sides. It lets you isolate a water line without turning off the house supply, which makes changing a filter cartridge or servicing a fridge's ice maker or water dispenser much simpler. It's a universal fitting rather than a brand-specific part, so fit comes down to tube size, not appliance model.

Adding an isolation valve to a fridge or filter water line

Plumbed fridges and under-sink filters are usually run in small plastic tube, and without a valve in the line the only way to stop the water is at the mains or the cold tap. An inline shut off valve gives you a dedicated off point right where you need it. Fit one before a water filter so cartridges can be changed without a flood, or behind the fridge so it can be pulled out for cleaning or repairs. It's also handy for shutting off a line quickly if a fitting starts to weep.

Part details

  • Generic inline shut off valve, part 613
  • 1/4 inch tube connection on both ends
  • Universal fit for fridge water lines and water filter systems
  • Isolates a line without turning off the main supply
Tube size 1/4 inch, both ends

Fitting the valve

Turn off the water supply and relieve the pressure in the line first. Cut the tube square with a proper tube cutter, not side cutters, so the end seals cleanly. Connect the tube fully into each end of the valve, then gently pull back to check it's held. Turn the water on slowly with the valve open and check every joint for drips.

Questions about this part

How do I check my tube is 1/4 inch?

Measure the outside diameter of the tube, or check the size printed along its side. Quarter inch tube is about 6.35mm across the outside. It's a common size for fridge water lines, but some systems use 3/8 inch or metric tube, which won't suit this valve.
