Tub springs and a Bosch washer that bangs during spin
Springs at the top of the cabinet hang the tub in place, while the dampers underneath control its movement. When a spring stretches or breaks, the tub sags to one side and can strike the cabinet as soon as the drum picks up speed. Signs include loud banging during spin, a drum that sits low or off-centre when you look through the door, and a loose spring rattling around in the base. Some machines also start reporting unbalanced loads and won't reach full spin speed.

Fitting a tub spring
Unplug the washer and take the top cover off, which is usually held by two screws at the back. Hook one end of the new spring into the cabinet bracket and stretch the other end to the tub lug with strong pliers or a spring tool. Keep your fingers out of the spring's path, and check the tub hangs level once both springs are in.
