Product details

The ignition transformer, often called the spark generator or spark module, produces the high voltage pulses that make the electrodes spark when you light a gas burner. Genuine BSH part 605136 (00605136) does this job in Bosch, Siemens and Neff gas cooktops that use it. The number of outputs and the connections aren't on our record, so compare the number and the lead count with your old unit.

No spark on any burner? The ignition transformer may be the cause

Each ignition switch on the gas valves feeds the transformer, which turns mains voltage into rapid high voltage pulses sent along the ignition leads to each electrode. When the transformer fails, typically none of the burners will spark, or the clicking becomes weak, slow or intermittent. Moisture or a spill can also set it clicking without stopping. Before replacing it, check each electrode for cracks and each lead for damage, because a single shorted lead can drag down the spark on every burner.

Fitting the ignition transformer

This is mains wired equipment inside a gas appliance, so in Australia it should be fitted by a licensed electrician or licensed gas fitter. Power and gas are isolated before the cooktop is lifted. Each ignition lead should be labelled before it comes off the old transformer so it goes back to the same output. After fitting, every burner is tested to make sure it lights cleanly.

Questions about this part

Will one bad electrode stop all burners sparking?

It can. A cracked electrode or damaged lead can leak the spark to earth and weaken or stop sparking across the cooktop. Check each electrode and lead before deciding the transformer has failed.
