Cracked or shattered inner oven door glass?

The inner glass is the hottest layer of the door. It reflects heat back into the oven and, along with the outer panes, keeps the front of the door safe to touch. A cold splash, a knock from a tray or a chip at the edge can crack it, and toughened glass can shatter without warning once damaged. A cracked inner pane lets more heat into the door, makes the outer glass hotter and can drop fragments into food. Stop using the oven until it is replaced.

Replacing the inner glass

Turn the oven off at the isolator and wait until the door is cold. Lift the door off its hinges and lay it face down on a towel on a flat surface. Wear gloves and eye protection, as broken toughened glass has sharp edges. Remove the trim or clips holding the inner pane, note any seals, spacers and which side faces the cavity, then fit the new glass the same way and refit the door.
