Product details
This genuine Fisher & Paykel encoder module, part 578057, is the temperature control encoder for OR90 freestanding cookers. It sits behind the temperature knob and tells the oven's electronics which setting you've chosen as you turn it. The function knob uses its own encoder, 578058, so make sure you order the temperature one if the problem is with setting the heat.
OR90 temperature knob skipping or not responding?
Unlike an old style thermostat, an encoder doesn't control the heat directly. It sends a signal to the control board each time the knob moves, and the board sets the oven temperature from that signal. As the encoder wears or gets contaminated with grease and moisture, the setting may jump around, go backwards, ignore the knob, or need several turns to change. The oven may then heat to the wrong temperature or not start at all. If the display shows the right setting but the oven still won't heat, the encoder is probably not the cause.

Swapping the encoder
Isolate the cooker at the switchboard before you begin. Pull the temperature knob straight off, then remove the control panel to reach the module behind it. Photograph the connector and mounting before removal, and fit the new encoder in exactly the same orientation. Freestanding cookers are often hard-wired, so a licensed electrician should do the reconnection.
Questions about this part
How do I confirm I have an OR90 cooker?
The model number is on the rating plate, usually on the oven frame when the door is open, or near the storage drawer if your cooker has one. F&P OR90 models begin with OR90. Send the full model and serial numbers if you'd like us to confirm 578057 suits it.
