Product details

Rated at 175°C, the genuine Fisher & Paykel 574340 is a Campini thermal limiter used as an over temperature safety device in ovens. When it senses too much heat at its mounting point, it breaks the circuit. Limiters come in many ratings that look alike, so check the 175°C marking and the number on your old one. No models are on file, so send your oven model through the parts enquiry form if you'd like us to confirm.

Why an oven thermal limiter trips

Ovens carry one or more thermal limiters to stop parts of the appliance, or the cabinetry around it, from overheating. This one opens its contact at 175°C. It trips when something has gone wrong, such as a cooling fan that has stopped, a thermostat that won't switch off, a door seal letting heat out over the controls or blocked ventilation in the cabinet. Afterwards the oven might be completely dead, refuse to heat while the light still works, or keep cutting out. Fitting a new limiter without fixing the cause usually means it trips again.

Limiter replacement tips

Ovens are hard-wired, so switch off at the switchboard and use a licensed electrician. Let everything cool, then record the wire positions before removing the old limiter. Make sure the new one makes full contact with its mounting surface and that any clip holding it is refitted. Run the oven at a high setting and confirm the cooling fan works.

Questions about this part

Can I fit a limiter with a different temperature?

No. The 175°C rating is chosen for where the limiter sits in the oven. A higher rating could let parts overheat, and a lower one could cut the oven out during normal cooking.
